Why choose Counselling and Psychotherapy as an individual?

  • Do you long to beat depression or be free from anxiety?
  • Need to overcome an addiction, an eating disorder or a phobia?
  • Want to come to terms with emotional, physical or sexual abuse?
  • Feel confused, anxious, depressed and powerless or out of control?
  • Yearn to handle stress better or manage anger more successfully?

You might hope to realise your potential and live a life that is more free, more creative or more fulfilling.

Why choose to see a Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist?

  • Because your marriage or relationship is at crisis point
  • Because you are aware of playing psychological games in relationships
  • Because you want a break-up to be as amicable as possible
  • To understand what went wrong

The point of couples therapy is to explore the relationship so it can be healed, strengthened or ended as harmoniously as possible.

Psychosexual issues may include: loss of desire or libido, erectile difficulties, pain on intercourse and improving your sex life. There may be issues around sexuality and orientation. Sexual addiction is more common than is often acknowledged.

The Mental Health charity, Mind, suggests a number of questions to put to a therapist when making a choice. The answers to these are on a separate page, and may help you to make your decision.

Richard Thomas believes that the therapeutic relationship needs to be marked by genuineness, positive regard for the client and empathy but thinks it is vital to find a way of working to suit the personality, circumstances, difficulties, and wishes of the individual client. Accordingly, he may introduce ideas from Cognitive Therapy where they are likely to be helpful and psychodynamic ideas where appropriate. Behavioural interventions may also be useful within the couple and relationship work, and his training also enables him to suggest nutritional suggestions if you wish.

If counselling, psychotherapy or psychosexual and relationship therapy is for you, do not hesitate to make contact.
